Who's behind broch?

Three founders who have built, marketed and sold real businesses, and one strong opinion about where your numbers should live.

The story.

Rod started on the agency side.

He built a specialist performance marketing agency, sold it, then crossed the table and went in-house, as CMO and fractional CMO for a string of scale-ups.

One of them was elmo.

The electric car subscription business Olly and Luke founded and sold. Rod ran the marketing numbers on a £1m a year budget while Olly and Luke ran a company on them, and all three of us sat in the same meetings arguing about which ones were real.

broch is what we wished had existed.

Every channel cleaned into one source of truth, kept in storage the business owns, readable by the team and their AI tools alike. The same three of us also run out sauce, which does for the rest of a business what broch does for marketing.

The founders.

Rod Richmond

Rod Richmond

co-founder

Founded a specialist performance marketing agency in Edinburgh, grew it to £8m of media spend a year and sold it.

CMO, then fractional CMO, for a string of scale-ups, including elmo.

Years spent living with the gap between what the platforms claim and what the bank account says.

broch is his answer: read-only access, working shown, every number defined once. He runs the practice day-to-day and scopes every build himself, so the person you talk to is the person who builds it.

The Scottish theme is Rod's doing. He remains unrepentant.

Olly Jones

Olly Jones

co-founder

Co-founded elmo in 2019 and led it from two people to acquisition by Constellation Automotive Group, the owners of cinch and WeBuyAnyCar.

Grew it to 1,500 vehicles and £10m in annual revenue.

Built the revenue function at Deep Green, a green data centre business backed by Octopus Energy.

At broch he brings the buyer's seat. He has been the founder piecing together last week from four reports and three logins, and he'd rather nobody else had to.

Has built companies in electric cars, data centres and now data. His family still says he works in computers.

Luke Gavin

Luke Gavin

co-founder

Co-founded elmo and built the operating system underneath it: the software platform, the fleet partnerships and £40m in asset finance facilities.

Before that, advised governments and corporates on electrification at Element Energy, after an early stint at Octopus Energy.

Led international development at Deep Green across the US and the Nordics.

At broch he owns everything operational.

A geoscientist by training. He swapped drilling through rock for drilling through data and claims the rock was better organised.

The three of us have been arguing about marketing numbers together since elmo. We'd rather argue about yours.
